About BHARATI
BHARATI – Bharat's Hub for Agritech, Resilience, Advancement, and Incubation for Export Innovation – is a flagship initiative of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). It is envisioned to transform India’s agricultural and processed food export landscape.
The BHARATI initiative is structured to complement and enhance existing industry- and government-led export enablement efforts in the agriculture and food sectors. Through a focused, insight-driven, and industry-leading export acceleration program, BHARATI aims to instil an export-first mindset among Indian food startups—nurturing, enabling, and empowering them to become globally successful agri-food exporters.
Rooted in APEDA’s
Farm to Foreign agenda, the BHARATI initiative fosters export-oriented entrepreneurship in the agri-food sector. It is designed to catalyze the creation of global-first agri-food products, promote demand-driven backward integration for innovation, and boost global demand for India’s diverse local and traditional foods, particularly among the Indian diaspora.
Through the BHARATI initiative, APEDA aims to catalyze innovation in high-value agri-food categories—including GI-tagged products, organic foods, superfoods, and novel processed Indian foods—positioning India as a global leader in agri-food exports. The initiative will also enable APEDA to map innovative and value-added products to global markets, offering insights, commercialization support, and promotional assistance through multiple channels—including trade fairs and buyer-seller meets. Furthermore, BHARATI will drive the integration of global best practices into Indian agri-clusters and the broader agri-food ecosystem, fostering the creation of “global fusions” in processed foods and targeting the USD 8.5 trillion global market opportunity by 2032.
APEDA recognizes that improving exports requires not only a focus on new product development and innovation but also strengthening and reinforcing the entire export value chain. This includes addressing critical gaps through technology-driven solutions and enhancing adherence to quality standards, compliance protocols, and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) norms.
To realize these objectives, with its export enablement focus, BHARATI initiative aims to identify, nurture, connect, and develop a dynamic network of agri-food innovators, technology-driven solution providers, and startups focused on addressing SPS and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) challenges. By creating strong linkages between technology innovators, producers, and global markets, BHARATI initiative will serve as a catalyst for next-generation export excellence. Through this initiative, it will bring together industry expertise, policy support, targeted interventions, and market intelligence to help Indian agri-food enterprises thrive on the world stage. These collaborative ecosystem-building efforts are designed to develop and deliver scalable, cost-effective solutions that enhance India’s export readiness and global competitiveness.
Through BHARATI, APEDA is committed to bridging critical gaps that hinder Indian agri-food exports, whether in product development, quality, compliance, sustainability, perishability, logistics, or market access. It will endeavor to further augment the Make in India for the World mission by accelerating innovation, improving market linkages, strengthening the adoption of global standards, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and empowering Indian startups to solve India’s export challenges and unlock new opportunities in international markets.
By fostering a replicable model of export-led growth, BHARATI aspires to position India’s agricultural and processed food products as the global benchmark for excellence, sustainability, and trust.
