European Commission amends existing MRLs on 1.3.2008 to be effective from 1.9.2008
The European Commission Regulation No. 149/2008 of 29 January 2008 (published in the Official Journal of the EC on 1st March 2008). This Regulation amends Regulation (EC) No. 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council by establishing Annexes II, III and IV setting maximum residue levels for products covered by Annex I thereto.
Annex II of this Regulation sets the MRLs formerly defined under Directives 86/362/EEC, 86/363/EEC and 90/642/EEC and its amendments.
Annex III sets the temporary MRLs for substances without MRLs under Directives 86/362/EEC, 86/363/EEC and 90/642/EEC.
Annex IV gives the list of active substances of plant protection products for which no MRLs are required.
Products such as spices, coffee beans, honey etc., for which Nationals MRLs were applied earlier, have been harmonized and these are indicated in this Regulation.
Thus, this is an exhaustive and comprehensive Regulation covering MRLs of various pesticide residues applied at the Community level.
This Regulation will enter into force from 1st September 2008. Till such time the current MRLs will apply.
